Although this blog is mainly about Poker and Bowling, I did say that I would occasionally write about other topics. This is one of those times.
When I was a kid, Christmas Eve seemed like the longest day of the year; in anticipation of Santa Claus’ visit, among other things. As an adult, it seems like one of the shortest days of the year. You see, it is one of my most favorite days now; a day of relaxation and spending time with the family, and I don’t want it to end.
When I was younger, I procrastinated, like a lot of other people, with my gift buying, wrapping and various other holiday related “tasks”. This created a very stressful week before Christmas, and especially Christmas Eve. Luckily, I’ve pretty much broken that bad habit as I’ve grown older.
Sometimes we watch movies - today it was “A Christmas Story” and Ralphie’s quest to get a Red Rider BB Gun for Christmas. In the past, we’ve played old fashion board games and put together a jigsaw puzzle. For the first time, I’ve written a blog entry on the day before Christmas. I’ve also caught-up on some reading and will attend Christmas Eve service at our church. Later we’ll get together with more family and have a low-key dinner. Finally, later tonight I’ll get a glass of wine, turn off all of the lights except for the Christmas Tree’s, and sit quietly and enjoy the last few minutes of the day.
These are some of the things that I enjoy doing during this special time of year. I hope you also have your traditions and enjoy this Christmas season.
