I Hate Freerolls – And Pocket Kings

I won a ticket to the PokerListing’s $15K EPT Steps Freeroll today based on my VPP points accumulated throughout the month.  It was a nice, quite Sunday afternoon.  I got a glass of wine, and settled in for what I expected would be a relaxing day (after all it was a freeroll) of online poker.  I was joined by 1,761 other players from around the world.

On the very first hand, I picked-up pocket Kings, UTG.  As I’ve mentioned before, K-K has not treated me especially well.  Regardless, with the blinds at 10-20, I raised 80, to 100.  The player in seat 8, Ty.Saba, called.  Then, darioandres9, in the cut-off seat, went all-in for 2,000.  After a brief pause, I called.  And, was subsequently joined by Ty.SabaTy.Saba had A-9, both spades, and darioandres9 had Queens.  The flop came: J-6-T.  The turn was a 7 and the river an 8.

I believe that’s the first time that I’ve been knocked-out of an online tournament in the very first hand :!:

With plenty of afternoon and wine left, I thought I’d try my “luck” again. I checked thePokerStars Tournament Lobby, and there was a “new” Mixed NLHE/PLO (6-Max) game starting in a couple of minutes.  It cost a grand total of 55 cents to play.   Out of 675 players; after 2 hours, and 11 minutes, I finished 66th for a total payout of $1.01  .
